glamvegan: I became a Vegetarian in 2003 and a Vegan in February of 2011 for both health and ethical reasons. I became a Vegetarian in 2003 after attending Tony Robbins' "Unleash the Power Within" 4 day event. I had always had the desire to become a Vegetarian due to my love of all animals. However, until I gained the knowledge through the Tony Robbins' event, I wasn't ready to make the lifestyle change. In one day I became a Vegetarian effortlessly. During the 8 years I was a Vegetarian, my next goal was to become a Vegan. However, once again, I needed the right motivation to make the change. In 2010, that motivation came in the form of my dad being diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. At the time, I was studying a Raw Foodist and of course learned about healing diseases such as Cancer through a 100% Raw Vegan Diet. I started sharing information with my dad in hopes that he would make some lifestyle changes to aid his fight. In doing so, I realized that I could not truly advise him if I was not practicing the lifestyle myself. As a result, I became a Vegan and now consider myself a High Raw Vegan.
